SK8 2 CR8 in style with Equillibrium …

Hard to believe summer is around the corner when we just got record snow fall in Colorado.  However,  it is almost here and we have some upcoming events we’d like to promote…

First,  is the Annual Dave Tuck Skate Jam in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Here is a nice commentary explaining who Dave Tuck is,  why his jam is in MI,  and what the event raises money for by Josh Meisler-  the event’s Creator,  Coordinator, and Host.   Josh, we thank you for keeping Dave’s essence alive through this kick ass rally to sk8 in his honor.  We cherish and miss you Dave ❤

The other event we are promoting is a Girl SK8 Jam in South Carolina,  called S.E.S.H. Skate Jam – an acronym for South Eastern Sister Hood Skate Jam.  This event dreamed up by our OG Skate Sister Tamra Church.   The event was inspired to bring Girls who share a love for skateboarding together at all ranges of ages as well as skill levels. This is its kick off year,  it will be rad to see what it grows into for next year!

S.E.S

Lastly there are Skateboard Camps coming up from Duchess Ride up in Eagle County starting June 4th!  Duchess Ride is a 501(c)3 non-profit who’s mission is to cultivate TENACITY, CAMARADERIE, and CREATIVITY in young girls.  They do great work and we love them for it!  Check out the link to their website for more information.

The World’s First Mall 4 Recycled Goods

Amidst the challenges we face to #RESIST in America with losses to fund science,  the arts,   and free educational resources;  here is a silver lining.  Sweden has an example of how to turn perceived lemons into lemonade…  please read on and remember it all starts with you to vote with your dollars,  use only what you need,  as well as REDUCE,  reuse,  and recycle as a last resort.  Making product is a big responsibility.  $upport Companies treating it as such.  Life cycle,  embodied energy,  and materials selection are3 Top factors to incorporate when sustainability principles are applied to design,  manufacturing,  and/or production.   Check out this blog going into more detail about the World’s first mall for recycled goods in Sweden…

Last week I wrote about the Edinburgh Remakery, and how they are trying to foster a culture of repair. It’s one of the most shared posts I’ve ever written, and there’s clearly a real interest in this whole idea. Lots of you have been in touch to share similar projects, including this one from Sweden. […]

TODAY- Tuesday; March 25th on Twitter is #KEEPWOLVESLISTED #TWEETSTORM… please put out a tweet #KEEPWOLVESLISTED – blast it all day long! Then time to write the White House if you haven’t already!

Thursday; March 27th is the FINAL deadline to defend and protect our wolves. In order to give our wolf recovery program a chance to work and ecosystems an opportunity to thrive. We MUST tell Secretary Jewell to have Federal protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) remain enforced. The Federal Government under the Obama Administration, has proposed to lift Federal protections. The Federal Gov’t has tested Wolf Management by States (ID, MT, WY, WI, MI, MN, WA, AZ to name a few) under their regulations within the Division of Fish and Wildlife under the Dept. of Interior- lead by Scretary Jewell, originally it was Secretary Salazar who proposed delisting- surprise he’s a rancher and Oil and Gas guy, don’t let the Democratic Party Association fool you. Sec. Jewell appears well groomed to finish what he started to delist Wolves despite her guise as an ex-CEO of REI and conservationist. State Departments of Natural Resources and Divisions of Wildlife management of Wolves has been devastating! Wolf Kill Management has been what they’ve implemented despite public preference to coexist. It has been a slaughter, AND an INHUMANE act of history repeating itself; showing evident extinction beyond endangered if allowed. Bottom line is Wolves need no human management- they regulate their own populations with turf wars to death of too many packs are present. There will never be too many Wolves, it is scientifically not possible and not naturally going to happen like that. Wolves also have natural disease and climate change to contend with as well. We have too many humans set in old ways of their Indusrty (Ranchers, Oil and Gas outfitters who want access to land, and other special interests who fund/ run certain States and our Gov’t), old emotional and fear based thinking that has been proven wrong and not to work!!! This is why Wolves were studied and reintroduced. OUR ECOSTYSTEMS FAILED WITHOUT THEM AND WATER DOWN STREAM INTO COMMUNITIES GOT CONTAMINATED!!!! WE NEED WOLVES, PERIOD, END OF STORY! Science has proven this, NO ONE  has or can disprove it!

Thursday at midnight is the end of public comment. Write the White House (click link) by Th; 3/27/14 midnight ! If you are unsure of the issues, what to write, how to write- go to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center and Mission Wolf two of my favorite Wolf sanctuaries in Colorado… they do great work and share their knowledge to educate others about this misunderstood and demonized Keystone Species and why they need Federal Protections STILL. Knowledge is power and put to action we can correct actions in the past with better choices in the future! #STANDFORWOLVES !!!!

Equillibrium’s transparent “UP” Side

As a Company, Equillibrium practices the 7th Generation Rule  by using it as a guide in making business related decisions. The 7th Generation Rule especially applies to decisions in our supply chain and design development approach.  Through implementing a sustainable design philosophy, we are not only able to minimize our waste but divert another business’ waste as well. This is called up-cycling, and is the only way Equillibrium is able to use conventional textiles sustainably.

Many of Equillibrium’s Business to Business (B2B) vendor relations are fostered by attracting kindred spirits, showing mutual respect, and sharing core values with a common goal– to “waste NOT”. Some of the materials and styles being launched in our next accessory line couldn’t have been predicted. These “gifts” were given to Deb Henriksen  with the responsibility to “… do something great with this, I know you will…”

We cannot think of a better way to show respect to the animal who sacrificed for us. For that we give thanks. As a lifestyle brand, and  huge fans of life itself, let is be said- “Equillibrium has not, in any way, harmed animals in the making of our products.” Further, “Equillibrium is against wasting, especially anything that has given its life. It is out of complete reverence, respect, and honor we cherish the life given for durable, biodegradable, natural skins. This is done by turning ‘waste’ into timeless, treasured pieces to live on for generations.”              – Deb Henriksen, LEED AP BD+C, CEO/ President- EQUILLIBRIUM, INC.

Standards as to what kind of up-cycled animal products Equillibrium will use: NO virgin materials– diverted from trash only, NO domestic animals, NO threatened or endangered species will ever be used.  Once material has been 100% used, it is gone. All pieces are limited edition, hand made, and one of a kind… we have no supply or intent for mass production of pieces made with these materials. (Ready to Wear lines are only made with sustainable materials for a larger scale model of production and are sustainably sourced based on Equillibrium’s results from an internal triple bottom line assessment.)

So, keep an eye out for some of Equillibrium’s magically BITCHN’ pieces that will ROCK YOU!!!! (Slowly seeping out into the streets this Summer… you’ll know when you feel it.)
